How to fund a democratic just transition
The powerful role workers and communities can play in remaking the future.
We know that climate change is real, we know that it is caused by humans (although some more than others – more on this later) and we know that humans can reverse it. The challenge of tackling it can feel overwhelming, but we also know that when we work together humans can make big changes.
Overview
The question for us in this module and at the heart of the movement for a democratic just transition is how do we ensure we take care of the people most affected economically by a shift from fossil fuels to a decarbonised and climate resilient economy and society? There is no, one-size-fits-all solution. We need to come together and start talking about the practical and achievable steps we can take in our communities and workplaces to bring about these transitions. Like, how should we allocate public money to fund just transitions that leave no one behind? In this exciting module we will explore the powerful role communities can play in remaking the future. As Irish trade union leader James Connolly once said, “our demands most moderate are, We only want the earth”.
